The Susan G. Komen Central and Northern Arizona (Komen CAN AZ) is known for its commitment against breast cancer. It renders service to all of northern and central Arizona, including Apache, La Paz, Coconino, Gila, Mohave, Maricopa, Pinal, Navajo, and Yavapai counties. Komen CAN AZ has nine local staff and over 1,500 community members as volunteers.
To fulfill its goal of saving lives and putting an end to breast cancer through empowering people, providing quality care, and supporting breast cancer research, Komen CAN AZ conducts several fund-raising events. Seventy-five percent of its net income goes to the community to be used for essential breast cancer services, while the remaining 25% is given to the Komen Award and Research Grants Program that funds breast cancer research.
There is an inspiring story behind the establishment of Susan G. Komen®. It was established by Nancy G. Brinker in 1982, after she made a promise to her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, that she would do all that she can to put an end to breast cancer. Today, Komen has become one of the boldest communities for global breast cancer movement.
One of the popular events of the foundation is the Komen Race for the Cure. Through the said race and other fund-raising events, the foundation was able to raise $2 billion which it has invested in various activities which aim to fight breast cancer. Komen actively supports breast cancer research, community health outreach, advocacy and other programs which aim to fight breast cancer in the United States as well as in over 50 countries.
The story of how the Komen Foundation was established never fails to inspire. In 1982, Nancy G. Brinker promised Susan G. Komen, her dying sister, that she would do everything to put an end to breast cancer. And that is how the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation came to be. Today, Komen Foundation continues its fight against breast cancer. By supporting breast cancer research and its involvement in community health outreach and campaign for the early detection and effective treatment for breast cancer, it is able to provide help to nearly 3 million breast cancer patients-turned-survivors in the United States. To fund the foundation, a number of fund-raising campaigns have been launched. One of which is the sale of mobile accessories that will benefit the foundation. This year, US Digital Media, parent company of MobileMars.com, will donate 10% from the sales of each Susan G. Komen® mobile accessory to the organization, with a minimum guarantee donation of $25,000. What could be a better way to show support for breast cancer awareness than with fashionable mobile accessories whose proceeds benefit a foundation fighting for the cause? Continue reading
